Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Senior Leadership Led the Hawks Against the Bobcats

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's soccer team jumped ahead early in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game today, but the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats rallied late and claimed a 3-1 win.

Prior to the start of their final AMCC game in their careers, seniors Jenna Castricone, Brooklynn Gormel and Nicole Plucinski were honored for their efforts wearing royal and white.

With action played in the middle third of the field in the opening minutes, the Hawks struck first.  Gina Mallone took the ball down to the right corner and weaved her way along the end line.  Her centering kick was poked in by the waiting Emily Gawlak at 17:00 which lifted Hilbert in the lead.

The Bobcats responded just four minutes later and knotted the game at 1-1.  Greensburg continued to press and attempted three more corner kicks and three more shots on goal before they connected to take a 2-1 lead by half time.

The Bobcats kept the ball in Hilbert's defensive third a majority of time in the early part of the second period. The visitors attempted 12 shots which resulted in four saves and three blocked shots.  Greensburg's third blocked shot landed at the feet of a teammate in the box and she lifted it past Castricone in the 83rd minute.

Hilbert had already turned up the heat prior to the game's fourth game, as the Hawks unleased eight shots in the final 11 minutes of action.

"It was a bitter sweet day honoring our three seniors and all their hard work and commitment to the program," said coach Kelly Starchok.  "It was a tough way to end their careers at Hilbert with a loss in AMCC action, but I am happy with the team's late-game efforts."

Gina Mallone was credited with four shots-on-goal and one assist.  Taylor Corts, Nicole Plucinski joined Emily Gawlak with the final shots on goal.

Jenna Castricone posted nine saves in her final game in Hamburg.

Hilbert has one final non-conference match on their schedule this 2017 season.  The Hawks will travel to Alfred State for a 6pm game October 24.
