Pioneers Start Fast but Fall to Altoona

The Alfred State volleyball team started off fast but couldn't keep the momentum as they fell 25-23, 19-25, 12-25, 16-25 to Penn State Altoona on Saturday morning.

Alyssa Fox (Letchworth) recorded a double-double as she led the team with 10 kills and 11 digs. Jordan McCooey (Horseheads) finished with 27 assists, Kiara Perkins (Coudersport, PA) recorded seven kills and 11 digs, and Jordan Stauffeneker (Lansing) chipped in 10 digs.

Lydia Mock led the Lions Altoona (10-10, 6-2 AMCC) with 13 kills and 23 digs while Jenna Bauer finished with 13 kills and 11 digs. Emily Bryan passed out 25 assists and Lauren Diller chipped in seven kills and 12 digs.

The Pioneers hit .206 in the opening set but couldn't keep up the success on the attack.

The blue & gold return to action on Wednesday for their final home match of the season. They take on Penn State Behrend at 7 p.m. in their annual Pink Pride game. The team will have various events taking place during the game to raise funds for Allegany County Cancer Services.
