Redhawks Defeat Mounties, Remain Perfect in Conference Play

CRESSON, Pa. - Preseason Player of the Year, Tyler Frederick, went off for 21 points and 9 rebounds in the second half Wednesday evening to lift the Redhawks over the Mounties by a final score of 78 to 62. The Redhawks, now 4-0 in conference play and winners of three straight, were 18 of 30 (60%) as a unit from the floor in the final twenty minutes. Frederick led the way shooting 9 of 12 from the floor and a perfect 3 of 3 from beyond the arc in the second half. LRU is one of only two teams in the AMCC still undefeated against the conference. La Roche has not lost a conference game since February 10th, 2018. 

Austin Hannes put up 22 points for the second straight contest, tying his season-high with 5 three pointers on 9 attempts. 

Kennedy Smith scored 12 of his 21 total points in the first half and shot 8 of 12 from the field. Smith has scored 20 or more points in six of his last seven games. 

The trio of Frederick, Hannes and Smith accounted for 85% of the Redhawks scoring tonight.

How it Happened

12 minutes into the game, the score was 12-10 in favor of La Roche. Then, Austin Hannes capped off  a 10-2 Redhawk run with back-to-back triples to put the Redhawks up to 22-12 with 8:40 to play in the first. 

A handful of turnovers by LRU allowed the Mounties to pull within 5 points heading into the half. The Redhawks held a 34-29 lead after 20 minutes of action. 

The Mounties went on a 7-2 run in the first three minutes of the second half run to tie the game at 36 points a piece. Aloysius continued to hang around, trailing by only four points with 12 minutes to play. 

La Roche then went on a 21-8 run over the next seven and a half minutes to go up 17 points and put the game out of the Mounties reach.

Inside the Box Score

After finishing the first half with no field goals and two points, Frederick finished the contest with a game-high 23 points and 13 rebounds on 9-14 FG, his fourth double-double of the season and second straight. The Butler native ranks 2nd in the AMCC in points per game (18.4) and first in rebounds per game (11.4).

On the glass, La Roche dominated, grabbing 32 rebounds compared to the Mounties 23. 

LRU made five three-pointers in each half but attempted five less from beyond the arc in the second. 

The Redhawks committed eight of their nine total turnovers in the first half. The nine turnovers ties a season-low for La Roche.

La Roche has shot 50% or better from the field in all four of their wins this season.
