Jennifer Colvin Sneaks one past Chatham's goalie
Balanced Scoring Leads to 4-2 Victory For Women's Soccer
Box Score HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's soccer team scored first and score last to win their first home opener game since the 2011 season. The Hawks used a balance attack in the 4-2 victory over Chatham University September 6. Hilbert improved to 2-1 and prevented the Cougars from finding their first win in three tries.
It took twenty minutes of play before the Hawks found their scoring touch. Sophomore
Jennifer Colvin netted her first Hilbert goal since transferring from the University of Buffalo this fall. She slipped a soft touch past the Chatham keeper who was distracted by a
Megan Van Norman cross.
Hilbert didn't hold the lead long as Megan Sieg scored her first goal of the season at 24:31 and forced a 1-1 tie into half time.
As Hilbert was just finding their grove, the fifteen minute intermission whistle sounded. The Hawks held a 16-4 advantage in shots while they forced Chatham's goalie to make seven saves.
Hilbert continued to push on the offensive end of the field and during a seventy-two second span in the second half,
Courtney Vaccaro and
Jackie Morgan each scored their first goal in 2014 to build a 3-1 Hawks lead. But twenty-nine seconds later, Chatham made it interesting again, when Sieg beat
Grace Adams in the frame cutting the deficit to one goal.
Hilbert's depth on the bench outlasted the Cougars.
Chelsea Olson's rebound-header at 87:49 sealed the deal for win number two for the Hawks.
Hilbert finished the game with lop-sided shots/shots on goals advantages (33-7 / 19-3). Chatham's Liz Sawyer was very active in the box finishing with 15 saves on the day.
Grace Adams, earning her second victory of the season, was credited with one save.
Hilbert returns to action next Saturday, when they host Hiram University (1p) as a double-header game with the men's team.
