Women’s Tennis Tops La Roche in Regular Season Finale

ALTOONA, Pa. – In its last match of its 2021 fall regular season schedule, the Penn State Altoona women's tennis team defeated Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent La Roche University 7-2 at the Adler Tennis Courts.

Penn State Altoona (4-5, 3-3 AMCC) worked its way out to a 2-1 lead in the match by winning a pair in doubles. After La Roche (0-7, 0-5 AMCC) won in the No. 1 match, the No. 2 doubles team of Stephanie Swain (Yadkin County, NC/Forbush)/Jenna Bartlett (Bellwood, PA/Bellwood-Antis) blanked their opponents 8-0 in their match. Dabin Shin (Palisades Park, NJ/Palisades Park)/Jiayi Zhang (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) won by forfeit in No. 3 doubles.

The Lions proceeded to take care of business in singles play, winning five out of six matches to clinch the sweep.

Caitlyn Dale (Lock Haven, PA/Central Mountain) and Shin prevailed by 6-0, 6-0 decisions in the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches, respectively. Zhang followed with a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the No. 4 singles match. Swain and Bartlett received forfeit wins in the No. 5 and No. 6 spots.

Penn State Altoona women's tennis' next match will be of the postseason variety, as the Lions have secured a berth into the AMCC Tournament. Penn State Altoona will be the number four seed in the conference playoff tournament and will face top-seeded Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday, October 16 in a semifinal round match at Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford. That day's match is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m., with the winner advancing to the AMCC championship match the next day.
