Softball Secures the AMCC Regular Season Championship; Lions Will Host AMCC Tournament

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend softball team swept Franciscan on Saturday in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) doubleheader to secure the AMCC regular-season championship.

Noteworthy

* With a sweep of Franciscan, the Lions secured the AMCC regular season championship
* Behrend will host the AMCC Championship next weekend on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

Game 1
* Behrend took on Franciscan in game one, winning 10-2 in six innings
* The Lions fell behind 2-1 after the third inning, before scoring nine unanswered runs in the fifth and six innings
* Each field player for the Lions had a hit in game one
* Alayna Derzak (Seven Fields, PA/Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic) led the team with five RBIs along with three hits and two runs
* Kendra Schreck (Emlenton, PA/Cranberry) had the game winning sacrifice fly in the sixth, bringing home Derzak
* AJ Nichols (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) pitched a complete game, improving to a 14-2 record
* Kristen Kargol (Saegertown, PA/Cambridge Springs) secured her 100th career hit

Game 2
* Behrend beat the Barons in game two, 2-1 with a walk-off hit
* In the bottom of the seventh, Nichols had an infield single to bring Katie Gozzard (Pittsburgh, PA/Deer Lakes) home for the game winning run
* Brittney Williams (Atlantic, PA/Conneaut Lake) had a no-decision, giving up only one run and five hits in six innings
* Nichols pitched the final inning, striking out two batters to secure the win
* Gozzard tallied her 150th hit of her career in game two against the Barons
* Gozzard lead the team with three hits and one run
