Hawks Volleyball Opens Season Posting One Set Win

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.  – The Hilbert College Women's Volleyball team opened their season with a pair of non-conference matches at Day 1 of the Lycoming two-day tournament.

The Hawks earned their first set victory in the night cap before falling in four-sets to the hosts, Lycoming College.  Hilbert slipped to AMCC league opponent La Roche University in the early match as they went 0-2 on the day.

LA ROCHE
  • The Hawks trailed 6-1 and then 7-2 in the first set before they rallied and knotted the game at 7's.   Hilbert forced another 9-9 even score but witnessed the Redhawks go on a 10-5 run which created enough space to win the opening set 25-21
  • Hilbert earned five points off kills in the second set, but found themselves down 19-9 midway through the game as La Roche pulled away with a 25-15 victory.
  • The Hawks kept the third set much closer from start to finish. The Redhawks withstood a Hilbert rally and built a 15-8 advantage.  Hilbert found it's rhythm and pulled within five points (23-18) which forced a Redhawk timeout.  La Roche turned a pair of Hilbert errors into the  match point victory (25-18)
  • Hilbert collected 18 kills, four service aces, five blocks, and 41 digs.
  • Freshman Jenna Revak led with seven kills, two blocks, three assists and eight digs.  Senior Casandra Thompson added nine digs while senior Ashley Page dished team-best seven assists.
LYCOMING

  • Hilbert took an early 3-1 lead and maintained control on the scoreboard to 5-5 score.  The Warriors went on a 5-0 run to pull away for the 25-16 first set win.
  • The Hawks found themselves in a deep hole, trailing 12-3 after pulling within one (4-3). Hilbert, after earning only five points in the set, fell 25-12.
  • Hilbert reversed their fortunes in the third set, built an early 8-3 margin and withstood the hosts rally when Lycoming cut the difference to one point (13-12).  Three Warrior errors later  Hilbert held another five point lead which they maintained until the final 25-22 set win.  Hilbert earned eight kills and back-to-back service aces which assisted in the victory.
  • After trading points through a 5-5 score, Hilbert led 7-6 and again at 12-11 in the fourth set.  The Warriors went on a mini, five-point run which held to the final 25-18 match set win.
  • Hilbert collected 26 kills, three service aces, five blocks, and 52 digs.
  • Freshman McKenna Rice led with six kills, while two additional freshmen, Michaela Rice and Jenna Revak added five kills each.
  • Michaela Rice plastered  four blocks and freshman Jaden Helbig dished a team-best 17 assists. Freshman Angelita Ledesma and Revak posted the first double digit dig performance of the season as they both collected 14 digs.
