Women's Soccer Blanked By League Leaders

HAMBURG, N.Y. – After playing to a 2-0 half time deficit, the Hilbert College women's soccer team surrendered four unanswered goals in the second period to fall 6-0 to Penn State Behrend.

The Lions (10-4) sit alone at the top of the AMCC rankings with a 5-0 record.  La Roche trails in second at 4-1-1 and currently (at the time of this recap), Mt Aloysius and Greensburg are tied for 3rd at 3-1-1.

The Hawks, with six games under their belt, are ranked 5th with a 3-2-1 league record and are still battling to make the post-season tourney with hopes of hosting a first round game.

Behrend didn't waste much time attacking the Hilbert frame today.  The Lions held a 21-1 shot advantage by half time and added a 13 point spread in the second half.

Hilbert was credited with three shots, one on goal.  Courtney Vaccaro took the solo shot on goal in the 63rd minute.

Jenna Castricone was credited with 10 saves, some of them were very impressive.  She had her mitts on a lot of balls that were flying her way in the first half.  Aurora Klawinski made four saves in the final 15 minutes of action and gave up the game's final goal in the final seconds.

The Hawks have three very important games remaining on their schedule.  They need to win all three to assure themselves a play-off spot/home field advantage.

This weekend, Hilbert travels to Mt. Aloysius for a 1pm game.  They then travel to D'Youville College (Buffalo Cup game) and will play under the lights at 5pm October 19.  Their final game of the regular season is October 22 at Pitt-Greensburg.

The Hawks are the only ones who control their destiny as they continue to write their future.
