FT. PIERCE, Fl. – The Hilbert College baseball team played defense most of the day as the Monmouth College Scots (2-1) claimed a 15-3 victory over the Hawks (2-2).
Ryan Bonafede hit his first home run of the season (second in his career) and went 2 for 4 on the day. The senior poked the ball to the left field and got Hilbert on the board first in the fourth.
Ian Moran's single sent
Michael Best home in the 5th and
Izaiah Diaz's sacrifice fly to right field gave
Dalton Reynolds time to beat the throw in the 7th. Moran joined Bonafede with a multi-hit day (2 for 3).
The Scots started the game on fire, posting 10 runs before Bonafede's long-ball hit the ground in the 4th.
Hilbert has a day off tomorrow from competition but will return to the diamond Wednesday for a single game against Eastern Nazarene College at 10 am.
