ALFRED, N.Y. - Alfred University outworked Hilbert College as they earned a 28-6 win in men's lacrosse this afternoon.
The Hawks, who struggled in the face off x, were pressured at both ends of the field as the Saxons limited Hilbert's offensive posessions.
Alfred won 30 of the game's 37 face offs and converted 15 of 16 clears while the Hawks struggled to progress to the offensive end after making only 50% of their clears (14-28).
The White and Purple picked up 63 ground balls and were credited with 19 caused turnovers as the Royal and White went 23 and 4 respectively.
Elijah Ryan (2-3) finished the game with 16 saves off of 55 shots before
Spencer Kennedy protected the frame the final 15 minutes (3 saves, 4 goals, 11 shots).
Alfred built a 6-goal lead after 15 minutes and stretched it to nine before
James Duffy scored an unassisted goal (8:19) in the second period. Â Three and a half minutes later,Â
Marc O'Neill added a second score as the Hawks went to intermission trailing 15-2.
Hilbert's
Ryan Spath beat the Saxon's goalie at 10:28 Â after the Hawks gave up four quick hits in the first three minutes of the third quarter but went to the final period behind, 24-3.
Hilbert tallied three goals in the 4th, with
Joshua Maloney (13:10) and
Brandon Bitka (3:03) going to frame as an unassisted score while
Drew Werner set-up
Edward Mathias for Hilbert's first back-to-back hit with 2:35 left in the game.
Wells College comes to town next week when the Hawks open NEAC play on Wednesday, April 3 at Eden High School (4pm).
