Hawks Baseball Falls 6-3

Ft. Pierce, Fla – Deadlocked at 2-2 after 5 innings of play, the Hilbert College baseball team gave-up four runs in the top of the 6th, and ultimately fell 6-3 to Monmouth College March 6.

Hilbert responded with a single run in the sixth, but were shut-out the rest of the way as they move to 1-1 after two days.

Christopher Newman scattered five hits through 5.1 innings of work, striking four out with only one walk.  The Scots put two runs on the board in the 1st inning but Newman settled down after that burst and faced only three or four batters the next four innings.

After Paul Wujek doubled on the Hawks' first swing of the day, Ryan Bonafede hit him home for the 2-1 top of the 2nd score.

Joshua Maier's double bagger in the 5th sent Anthony De La Cruz home for the Hawks second run of the day setting up the 2-2 score heading into the 6th.
The Scots collected four runs off three singles and a double, 2RBI inning to take a 6-2 advantage.

In the bottom of the 6th, Monmonth made a pitching change after the Hawks' fourth batter was hit by a pitch which loaded the bases.  Bonafede was hit by the new guy and all runners advanced a bag to score the final run of the day, for both teams.

Anthony De La Cruz went 3 for 4, with Bonafede (2) and Maier credited with the 3RBIs.

Kevin Moore struck a pair out during the four-run inning before Winfred Nelson, Tristan Aldinger and Treyton delaCursta closed the game with one inning of work each,  in a "three-up, three-down" performance.
