Preview: Redhawks Play First Conference Match Up

Pittsburgh, PA - Today the Lady Redhawks (3-2, overall)  head to Penn State-Altoona to take on the Lions (1-6, overall 0-1, in conference). 

At the helm for the Lions is Halee Adams. This is her first season as head coach at PSA due to the 2020-21 season being canceled due to covid. Prior she was an assistant coach at Mount Aloysius. She is no stranger to Allegheny Athletic Collegiate Conference (AMCC) or La Roche. 

The Head Coach for the Redhawks is Kam Gissendanner who is in her ninth season as Head Coach at La Roche. Gissendanner has an overall record of 152-39 (.796) and a conference record of 118-10 (.922). Pre-Pandemic the Redhawks had just won the AMCC Conference Championship. La Roche was selected to finish first in the 2021-22 Coach's PreSeason Poll.

PSA is currently 0-1 in conference with their loss being to Alfred State.

Players to Watch

Lions

The leading scorer for the Lions is a senior center, Alexis Cannistraci (Tyrone, PA). Cannistraci averages 16.7 points per game. She plays an average of 34.3 minutes. Cannistraci's field goals percentage is 37.9%, and she averages 5.9 rebounds per game. 

The next offensive threat to the Redhawks is a sophomore guard, Megan Harman (Claysburg, PA). Harman averages 6.9 points per game with a field goal percentage of 21.3%. SHe leads the team in assists with an average of 1.9 per game.

Redhawks

The offensive player the Lions have to be on their toes for is a senior guard, Danajah Sanders (Cleveland, OH).

Shortly behind her is a freshman forward, Makayla Abram (Steubenville, OH).

Another player to watch out for underneath is a senior guard, Ayanna Mazyck (Philadelphia, PA). Mazyck averages 10.4 points per game (.339%) and 5.4 rebounds per game. 

The leading passer for the team is a senior guard, Shaundrea Butler (Cleveland, OH). 

Butler is never afraid to pass the ball and from that has accumulated 17 assists this season. She has also picked up 9 steals, and two blocks. Butler averages 8.4 points per game herself. 

Machia Hairston (senior/ Pittsburgh, PA), is the leading rebounder for the Redhawks with 6.2 averaged per game. Hairston also contributes 7.8 points per game.
