Lions Tennis Cruises Past Pitt-Greensburg for Second AMCC Win

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's tennis team returned to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action on Sunday afternoon at the Gorilla House Gym, with the Lions earning an 8-1 victory over visiting Pitt-Greensburg.

Playing its first AMCC match of the semester, Penn State Altoona (2-4, 2-0 AMCC) improved to 2-0 in the conference with a convincing seven-point win over Pitt-Greensburg (1-3, 1-2 AMCC).

The Lions established a 3-0 lead in the match by sweeping doubles play. In the No. 1 doubles match, Joey Toth (South Park, PA/South Park)/Tommy Davis (Memphis, TN/Collierville) recorded their second win of the season together with an 8-4 decision over their opponents. Micah Brinker (Lock Haven, PA/PA Cyber)/Casey Hess (Annville, PA/Annville-Cleona) combined for an 8-2 win in No. 2 doubles for their team-high third doubles win together. In the No. 3 doubles slot, Ethan Schneider (Broad Top, PA/Tussey Mountain)/Kirk Eichenlaub (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) prevailed 8-3 for their first doubles win as a tandem.

Penn State Altoona continued its dominance in singles play, winning five out of six matches, including three 6-0, 6-0 decisions. Davis defeated his opponent 6-3, 6-3 in No. 2 singles for his second win of the season, and Hess followed with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the No. 3 match to tie for the team-high in overall singles wins with four. Brinker also recorded his fourth overall win of the season with a 6-3, 6-4 victory in the No. 4 match, and Jake Irwin (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) and Eichenlaub rounded out the singles lineup with 6-0, 6-0 wins in the No. 5 and No. 6 matches, respectively, for their third wins of the season.

Next up, Penn State Altoona men's tennis will face AMCC opponent Medaille College on Sunday, March 13 in Buffalo. The start time for that match is set for 12:30 p.m.
