Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

13 Hawks Chip In To Keep Hilbert 6-0 in League Play

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College men's basketball team collectively strung together a balanced scoring effort as the Hawks captured a 95-82 AMCC victory over La Roche College this afternoon in the Hafner Recreation Center.   Hilbert now stands at 11-1 and undefeated in six AMCC contests as they dropped the Redhawks to a 3-2 league record (4th place) and 3-9 overall.

Jerame Owens and Ryan Bradt's strong 1st half pushed the Hawks to an 18-point half time lead and allowed their teammates to step-up and claim the victory the second period.   Owens led all players with 17 points and eight rebounds and Bradt added 13 points (10 by the break).

La Roche's Darrell Barron scored seven consecutive Redhawk points late in the game to collect 16 points to carry his team's load.  He flushed coast-to-coast, back-to-back dunks off steals in the back court and gave the visitors a lift late, but time ran out for the Redhawks.

Jalen Smith (12) and Sean Weisansal (11) posted double-digits as 12 of the 13 Hawks found a way to make it to the official score book.  Weisansal (6-6); Smith, Kirkland Ottey, David Arlaud and Kyle Kline (4-4); Bradt (3-3) and Jonathan Jackson (2-2) all were prefect at the charity stripe as the Hawks shot 87.8%, 15-feet from the basket.

Hilbert created their 1st double-digit lead (26-16, 10:57) on an 8-0 run with Nicholas Parucki scoring four of those points.  The Hawks closed the first period with a pair of shots from down-town (Smith and Weisansal) while Owens found the bottom of the net twice to take a 51-33 lead to intermission.

A six-point swing, starting at 16:48, gave Hilbert a 64-42 advantage and that 22-point lead held up for most of the rest of the way until Barron gave his team new life late in the game.  He cut the score down to 12 as the red and white were in looking to extend the game with fouls.

Hilbert went 9 for 12 down the stretch at the foul line to maintain their double-digit lead.

The Hawks finished the game with 51% field goal percentage and held La Roche to 40.6%.  The Redhawks crashed the offensive glass (11) but were out-rebounded by Hilbert (37-32).  Hilbert went 36-41 from the foul line yet committed a 23 turnovers, their second highest of the season.

Fans can return to the Hafner Center tomorrow for a 1pm AMCC game against Penn State Altoona (1-9, 0-6 AMCC).
