Lions Fall 7-2 to Westminster

ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's tennis played its third match in the past four days on Sunday afternoon, when the Lions took a 7-2 loss to non-conference opponent Westminster College at The Summit Tennis and Athletic Club.

Westminster (3-2) secured the early lead in the match, winning the first and third doubles matches by respective scores of 8-6 and 8-2. Penn State Altoona (1-6) earned a point with a victory in the No. 2 doubles match, where the duo of Micah Brinker (Lock Haven, PA/PA Cyber)/Jimmy Gillespie (Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) prevailed 8-2.

The Lions also added a point to their total in singles play, as Joshua Wefers (Colchester, VT/Colchester) picked up his first collegiate win with a 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 decision over his opponent in the No. 2 slot.

But the Titans won five out of six singles matches to earn a five-point victory over the Lions on the day.

Now, Penn State Altoona men's tennis will head into a layoff until Saturday, March 21, when the Lions return to action by traveling to play Lycoming College for a match at 1:00 p.m. that day.
