Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Opens 2018 in Florida

FT. PIERCE, Fl. – The Hilbert College baseball team dropped a pair of non-league games at the start of their eight-day trip down south in the Florida Coast Spring Training camp.

The Hawks slipped in a one-run defeat to Eastern University in the morning game before they dropped the 1pm game to Drew University.

Ian Moran went 4 for 6 on the day and scored one run for the 0-2 Hawks.

Eastern 3 - Hilbert 2
Hilbert got on the scoreboard first in the 9:30 am game.  After Jared Welnowski earned a base on balls, Brandon Zicari singled to left field.  Thomas Tette's walk loaded the bases before Tristan Aldinger stepped to the plate.  A wild pitch gave Welnowski time to sprint home for the first run of the game in the bottom of the 3rd.

Eastern plated three runs in the top of the 6th fueled by a two-run double.

Eric Flores singled to center field and was pushed home off Connor Ducks RBI in the bottom of the 6th inning to close the game's scoring.

Ian Moran, Zicari and Flores each picked up three hits in the game.

Henry Bowers opened his sophomore campaign striking out five, and posted two walks, three hits in five innings of work.

Drew 16 - Hilbert 2

The Rangers jumped out with a 10-run lead by the bottom of the first inning and never looked back.

Drew collected 16 hits evenly paced throughout the nine-inning game.

Ryan Perrin's single to the outfield poked Moran home in the bottom of the 6th and a Ranger balk inched Hilbert to home in the 7th inning.

Moran went 3 for 4 scoring the Hawks' first run off Ryan Perrin's solo RBI.

Treyton delaCuesta gave up only two hits, no runs and struck-out a pair in the 2.1 innings of work.

Hilbert returns to action tomorrow, March 4 with a double header against Bridgewater State in Vero Beach beginning at 11 am.
