ELMIRA, N.Y. –The Hilbert baseball team lived through a brief 10-minute rain delay in the middle of the seventh inning when they held a two-run lead.  That interruption broke any comeback attempt that the Elmira Soaring Eagles were working on as the Hawks took an 11-8 non-conference victory over the hosts and improved to 6-10.

Kevin Moore went 4-for-4 hitting both a home run and a double while knocking in three runs. 

The Hawks earned 16 hits and finished with 10 RBIs.  

Ian Moran picked up two more stolen bases, earned three hits (2 doubles) and scored three runs while Taylor Haug (2 RBI) and Ryan Bonafede (1RBI) each posted two hits off their four at bats.

Bonafede got the Hawks on the board first with a single RBI in the 1st inning.  Hilbert tacked on four more runs in the top of the third off four singles to the outfield.

Elmira responded in the bottom half with six runs behind a triple at the start the inning, pushing two to the plate and then followed with a pair of home runs which knocked in four more runs.

Hilbert's Moore homered for the first time this season and that long hit knotted the score at 6-6 in the fourth inning.

Haug posted an RBI single and Michael Best's RBI base on balls lifted Hilbert by two runs just before the rain delay hit.

Elmira forced another even score in the bottom of the seventh, but that was all they had in their tank. 

Michael Goodberry faced the final two batters in the 7th and went the 8th holding the Soaring Eagles scoreless to get the win.  Kevin Moore earned his first save of the season facing four batters in the bottom of the 9th inning.

The Hawks non-conference game originally scheduled for Wednesday, April 5 against Fredonia has been postponed so their next contest is this Saturday, April 8.  Hilbert will host Mt. Aloysius College in AMCC action with that game being played at Houghton College.
