Men’s Tennis Gets Past Pitt-Greensburg 5-4

GREENSBURG, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's tennis pulled out a one-point victory in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match on Sunday, posting a 5-4 win over Pitt-Greensburg at the Greensburg Racquet Club.

Pitt-Greensburg (2-2, 2-2 AMCC) held a 2-1 lead in the match after doubles play, as the Bobcats earned wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 matches. Penn State Altoona (2-1, 2-1 AMCC) salvaged an important point in the No. 2 doubles match, where the team of Jaydan Jacobs (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands/Charlotte Amalie)/Micah Brinker (Lock Haven, PA/PA Cyber) prevailed 8-1.

The Lions staged a comeback in singles play, winning the No. 3 through the No. 6 matches to rally for a one-point win on the day.

Jacobs picked up his second singles victory of the season in the No. 3 match, playing to a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win. Brinker also recorded his second singles win of the spring by coming back from a first-set deficit to post a 4-6, 6-4, 10-4 triumph over his opponent. In the No. 5 match, Jake Irwin (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) earned his first collegiate victory with a 6-1, 3-6, 11-9 win. Kirk Eichenlaub (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) grabbed his team-leading third singles win of the season in the No. 6 slot, where he battled to a 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) victory.

Penn State Altoona men's tennis has one regular season date remaining on its 2021 schedule, a Saturday, April 10 match at AMCC opponent Penn State Behrend. Start time for that match is slated for 3:00 p.m.
