Strong Shooting Performance Not Enough for Panthers

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's basketball team shot 48% from beyond the arc but were unable to take advantage of their long-range prowess as they fell to Pitt-Greensburg 92-72.

Game Notes:

  • The Panthers jumped out to an early lead when Nick Carmichael hit a three from the top of the key to begin the game. The Bobcats quickly tied the game and went ahead of Pitt-Bradford with a three of their own and two from the line. The teams would trade baskets once more and then share a two-minute scoreless streak that ended with a Pitt-Greensburg put back and a Panther timeout. 
  • Pitt-Bradford quickly narrowed the lead to 1 on a Deondre Terwilliger three. The teams traded baskets for the next 3 minutes, including two from Dylan Meyer. Following the second Meyer jumper, the Bobcats opened up an eight-point advantage with a run that saw them score 7 unanswered. The Panthers answered with two straight positive possessions as Carmichael spun underneath to make a layup and Alex Breindel hit a three on a feed from Daniel Lynch, only to see the Bobcats score 12 out of 14 points to push the advantage into double digits.
  • The Panthers used back to back threes from Breindel and Alex Rodriguez to get back in the game. Rodriguez came up big with a minute to go, hitting back to back from deep to keep the Panthers within range heading into the half.
  • After the Break, the Panthers quickly cut the deficit to six. Dylan Meyer got the game restarted with a mid-range jumper. After a Bobcat response, Jeffrey Fry hit back to back threes to close the run. 
  • With 15 minutes to go, Carmichael worked to keep Pitt-Bradford within shouting distance of the Bobcats. He scored hit two straight jumpers and then made a pair from the line to keep the lead at 10. Following the Carmichael spurt, the Panthers used the long ball to stay within range. Rodriguez hit two more from deep and Breindel added a third.
  • Following the Breindel three, the Bobcats closed the game on a 25-14 run.

Leaders:

  • Nick Carmichael recorded his 3rd double-double of the season. He finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Alex Rodriguez also finished with 15 for the Panthers. All of his points came via the three as he hit 5-9 from beyond the arc.
  • Alex Breindel scored 9 points on 3-4 and Jeffrey Fry hit both threes he attempted.
  • The Panthers shot 48% from three on the day and made all 10 free throws they attempted.

The Panthers are now 1-18 on the season and 0-14 in AMCC play. They will be on the road for the next three games and then will finish the season with their final 3 games at home. They will travel to Buffalo on Wednesday to take on Medaille at 6:00 p.m.
