Softball Hits a Slump at Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa.Penn State Altoona kept the Hawks' bats at bay as the Lions took both AMCC games from Hilbert College in softball this afternoon.  Altoona earned a 5-inning 8-0 victory and then closed the day with a 4-0 win.

Rachel Allen was tagged with both losses and Jenna Castricone and Marisa McIntyre earned Hilbert's only hits in the opening game while Rebecca Bailey posted the solo hit in the night cap.

GAME 1

Allen faced five batters in the bottom of the 1st inning before Victoria Dzaak was handed the ball facing a 2-0 deficit.  Dzaak closed the inning with a pair of strike outs after one more run plated.

McIntyre started the third inning with a hit and Castricone repeated that feat in the fourth, but that was it for Hilbert who trailed 3-0 by the middle of the 4th.

Altoona stretched their lead to 8-0 with runs in the next two innings, cutting the contest short.

Dzaak gave up four earned runs and struck out three in 4.2 innings.

GAME 2

Marisa McIntyre opened the game in the circle for Hilbert but was relieved by Allen after the fourth batter.

Allen kept the Lions in check through three score-less innings until Altoona strung together three straight hits which led to a 3-run inning by the bottom of the 4th.  Altoona added another run in the bottom of the 5th to build the final 4-0 score.

Bailey collected her hit as the first batter in the final 7th inning, but was stranded there after three quick outs.

Allen went 5.1 inning, collected five strike outs and gave up seven hits and two unearned runs.

Hilbert returns to the road tomorrow when they travel to Alfred, NY to finally play the multi rescheduled non-conference game against Alfred State.
