Geneva Takes Two From The Hawks

FORT. PIERCE, Fl. – After playing each other in a single game yesterday, Hilbert and Geneva returned to the diamond for a double-header battle under the lights tonight.

The Tornadoes rallied late in the opening 7-inning game to take a 10-1 victory then posted seven runs in the third inning of the night cap for an 11-3 sweep.

The Hawks collected six hits, a pair of triples, 3 RBIS, and a pair of stolen bases spaced over two games.

Geneva found 23 hits with six multiple-bag hit creating 14 RBIs.

Geneva 10 – Hilbert 1

Connor Duck started the game with what turned out to be Hilbert's only multi-base hit, as the freshman knocked a triple to the right field with two outs at the top of the first inning.

Geneva scored a pair of runs off their two hits in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead which held until the Hawks earned their second hit in the game in the fourth.  Jared Welnowski singled to center field sending Winfred Nelson home, slicing the deficit in half.

Henry Bowers carried the Hawks through four innings on the bump striking out three, with one walk and two runs off five hits.

Ian Moran added a stolen base to his career total in the top of the 6th, but the Hawks offense stalled while Geneva's bats made a lot of contact as the game progressed.

The Tornados collected five hits, scored 8 runs while Hilbert committed only one error during that time.

Geneva 11 – Hilbert 3

Tristan Aldinger struck two out in the top of the first to put the Hawks on the fast track.  Both Nelson and Duck singled in the bottom half but they were stranded by the third out.

Aldinger continued the fast pace as he got the first two batters swinging with the third flying out to Mathew Sokolski.

Sokolski, after getting a base on balls, stole second base but didn't continue his run as the inning ended on a ground out.

Geneva start their run in the third inning when their 3rd and 5th batters whacked triples while the 4th hit a double to open up a 3-0 lead.  They built a 7-0 score by the bottom half.

Hilbert went six-up, six-down, all on strike outs, sandwiched around Geneva's 4-run fourth inning.

Edward Smallman earned an RBI in the 6th when Hilbert tallied two runs and Eric Flores closed the game with an RBI triple to center field scoring Zachary Crane.

Aldinger (0-1) covered three innings while striking out five, giving up four earned runs off four hits in the night cap loss.

The Hawks (2-5) return for a single game against Eastern Nazarene College at 12 noon tomorrow.
