Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Eight Seniors Shine on Senior Day

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College men's soccer team started the game strong this afternoon, playing with purpose on Senior Day.

Pitt-Greensburg (4-10-1) found their momentum after intermission and earned their second Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victory with a 2-0 win against the Hawks (0-15, 0-9).

The pace at the start of the game was impressive.  The Hawks had strong legs and effort was made all over the pitch. Over a seven-minute span in the first half, Hilbert pressed hard on offense and garnered four shots and one corner. But each team went to their section of the field at half time in a scoreless tie.

Greensburg started the second period with multiple offensive strikes yet Ryan Valentine produced a pair of saves and the Hawks defense blocked a few shot.  The Bobcats found their opening goal in the 60th minute off a header finished off one of their 13 corner kicks.  After the visitors tallied their second marker in the 74th minute, Hilbert started to play with urgency.

The Hawks had several opportunities late in the game but they didn't get good strong strikes behind the ball or the Bobcats defense poked the ball away.

"We played for the seniors today," said coach Mike Ertel.  "Everyone was fully committed to competing to their greatest potential and although a few key moments did not go in our favor, we can be satisfied with the overall effort of the team."

Valentine was credited with eight saves, while Nicholas Clay, Garrett Rehner and Ryan Schupp posted a shot on goal in their final AMCC contest.

Hilbert has one final non-conference match on their schedule this 2017 season.  The Hawks return to the Varsity Field for a 3pm game against Alfred State College October 25.
