Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Volleyball Sweeps Lancaster Bible

ALTOONA, Pa. The Hilbert College men's volleyball team captured their first North Eastern Athletic Conference victory today when they up-ended Lancaster Bible College in straight sets.  Eleven Hilbert players tallied points while the one non-scoring Hawk was credited with a game-high marker in digs.

Head coach Chris Krueger earned his first victory as the Hawks head coach.  Congratuations to all!

Hilbert (1-15, 1-4 NEAC) jumped out to an early lead in the first set and rushed to a 25-18 score.   The Hawks held an 11-6 edge in the second set before Lancaster Bible battled back for their only lead (13-12).  Two Hilbert kills and a hitting error by the Chargers gave the Hawks a 15-13 advantaged and they held on for the 25-21 win.

After dropping two straight, Lancaster Bible regrouped and opened the third set with a vengeance.  The Chargers were one point ahead of the Hawks until Korey Schwab hit back-to-back kills giving Hilbert a an 11-10 score.  Each teams traded points the next five serves.  Tanner Makowski and Adam Heftka connected for a kill and set up a 15-13 advantage.  Four kills and two Bryce Perry services aces later, Hilbert took their first match of the season.

Korey Schwab posted seven kills and Bryce Perry chipped in five additional play-stopper hits.  Adam Heftka assisted on 23 kills and joined Perry and Jacob Alessi who each netted two service aces each.

Ryan Ratajczak added 16 more digs to his career total and Brett Kane added 10 digs to his early career totals.
Andrew Duncan posted two more block assists to his career total.

Neither team hit the ball with much accuracy but Hilbert finished with a positive .053 attack percentage while the Chargers struggled and finished with a -.010 hitting percentage.  Hilbert was credited with 27 kills while Lancaster Bible trailed with 23 kills and the Hawks picked up eight points off their own serves.

Hilbert returns to action tomorrow against Keuka College (9 am) before they face Penn State Altoona at 1 pm.  Both games will be live streamed so click on over to watch!
