HAMBURG, N.Y. – Playing in their last home game of the 2014 season, the Hilbert College women's soccer team battled to a 1-0 loss against Medaille College on a cool and overcast afternoon.  Prior to the start of the game, the women's soccer team welcomed back Special Olympian Amanda Klimczak to the field and integrated her into the game's introduction ceremony.

The Hawks played to a scoreless half after they were outshot 7 to 3.  All three of Hilbert's shots were off the mark while the Mavericks found the middle of the frame three times which were all stopped by Grace Adams

But in the 60th minute, Medaille one-touched the ball past the goal line for their game winner.  The Hawks battled for field position and challenged the visitors the rest of the half until an offsides call in the 83rd minute eliminated a game-tying goal for Hilbert.

Medaille controlled the pace of the game offensively, outshooting the hosts 16-7 in the second half.   Anytime they saw the netting, they let loose with an attempt.  But all of Hilbert's shots were on frame and forced the Maverick goalie into saves.

Grace Adams finished with eight saves on the day and kept her footing for most of the afternoon on a very muddy field.

Jennifer Colvin and Jackie Morgan were credited with two shots each on goal as Colvin found room to release four total shots.

Brooklynn Gormel did a great job of keeping Medaille's leading scorer from celebrating which gave the Hawks a fighting chance for victory.

Earlier this week, Amanda Klimczak attended a women's soccer practice and worked out with the team.  There were lots of laughs and interesting conversations when Amanda talked with the team about her Special Olympic experiences as a soccer and bowling competitor and in her experiences as a coach in the Special Olympics, having earned her certification to hold that position.  Amanda was able to walk out with the Hawks during the team introductions and stood with the team during the playing of the National Anthem.

The Hawks (4-10, 1-6 AMCC) close their season with two road games over the course of the next week.  This Saturday they will be at Penn State Altoona (2-12-1, 1-5 AMCC) for a 1pm game and then Tuesday, October 28th Hilbert travels to the league-leader Pitt-Bradford (12-4, 6-1) for their final contest.
