HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert Hawks women's volleyball team hosted the Golden Eagles of Brockport this evening.  In their ninth matchup this season against a SUNYAC opponent, the Hawks were not able to come away with a win, falling in three sets (25-18, 25-20, 25-21). Amanda Binder led the Hawks with ten kills and eight digs.

Hilbert matched Brockport in the early going of the first set, being down only 10-8. However, a series of receiving errors allowed the Golden Eagles to pull ahead 19-10. The Hawks were not done fighting and clawed their way back to 23-18, but it was not enough as Brockport went on to take the first set 25-18. Brockport had seven kills in the set, with five more points coming off aces. Hilbert recorded 8 kills, three of which were by Jordan Botsford.

The Hawks fell quickly in the second set, dropping 18-9. Strong net play by Binder and winning the majority of the long volleys allowed the Hawks to work their way to a 23-19 score. It was just a little too late and the Hawks dropped the second 25-20. Hilbert had one more kill than Brockport (12-11), again, but still fell short due to errors.

The Hawks, again, dug themselves into a whole early, with a 7-2 score. The Hawks cleaned up their play and slowly fought back to an eventual 13-13 draw. A solo block by Crystal Swanson gave the Hawks their first lead of the night at 17-16. Swanson followed that play with a kill but the Golden Eagles did not stay down long and regained the lead at 20-19. Brockport went on to win 25-21.

Botsford was credited with eight kills, nine digs, and one block assist. Kayla Lewis contributed six kills and five digs, while Morgan Ott led all players with 24 assist and ten digs. Swanson finished the night with one block solo and three block assists. Binder added two block assists and one solo block.

The Hawks (2-24) are back on the road tomorrow at D'Youville College.
