Men’s Volleyball Falls 3-1 to Division II Daemen

AURORA, N.Y. – The Penn State Altoona men's volleyball team finished off its weekend at Wells College on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-1 to Division II opponent Daemen College in the Schwartz Athletic Center.

The Lions (5-6) battled their Division II counterpart throughout a four-set match. Daemen (8-5) got out to a 2-0 lead in the match, winning the first two sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-21. Penn State Altoona won a set off of the Wildcats, prevailing 25-21 in the third. But Daemen pulled out a 25-21 victory in the fourth set to win the match.

Ben Beaver (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) totaled a team-high 13 kills for the Lions while also tying for a team-leading two service aces. Frank Perehinec (Altoona, PA/Altoona) tied for the team lead in digs with 10, posted a team-best three total blocks with two assists and one solo, and added 10 kills.

Tyler Sheaffer (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) put up a team-high 28 set assists to go along with eight digs, one solo block, and one block assist. Matthew Vandeveire (Washington, D.C./West Springfield) tied for the team-high in digs with 10.

Nikolas Ferraro (Toms River, NJ/Donovan Catholic) posted four kills, one solo block, and one block assist, Nathaniel Reinert (State College, PA/State College) had three kills and seven digs, and Daniel Jordan (Pittsburgh, PA/Thomas Jefferson) and Mirko Pandini (Milan, Italy/Greater Latrobe) each recorded two kills and one block assist, with Pandini also notching two service aces.

Penn State Altoona men's volleyball will return to the Adler Arena for a home match this upcoming Wednesday, February 19, when the Lions will host non-conference opponent Messiah College at 7:00 p.m.
