Pioneers Open up 2019 Slate

The Alfred State women's basketball team returned to the court following nearly a month long break on Wednesday and fell 82-55 at Pitt-Bradford.

The Panthers jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the first 4:19 and never trailed during the game. The Pioneers cut into the lead and trailed by only one 18-17 in the closing seconds of the 1st quarter. The Panthers and Pioneers went back and forth in the 2nd quarter before a late run gave UPB a 41-32 halftime lead. Just over three minutes in the 3rd quarter, ASC trailed 45-42 but Bradford went 13-0 run to put the game away.

Skylar Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) led the team with 14 points and completed the double-double with 10 boards. Jordyn Pettit (Wellsville) also recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds while Emily Kelley (Andover) finished with 10. Rayanna Anderson (Wellsville) connected on three 3-pointers and had nine points and Kelsey Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) chipped in eight.

Jennifer Isenberg and Latifah Cain both finished with 18 points to lead the Panthers (5-5). Shirleah Ragin added 17, Shaelyn Snipes 13, and Jasmin Miller 12. The Panthers grabbed 25 offensive rebounds and scored 52 points in the paint.

Alfred State was 19 for 68 from the field, 5 for 14 from three, and 12 for 18 from the foul line while Pitt Bradford was 36 for 91 from the floor, 2 for 19 from three, and 8 for 15 from the foul line.

The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday when they host Keuka at 1 p.m.
