Panthers drop both games to Mount Aloysius

CRESSON, PA. – The Pitt-Bradford baseball team traveled to Mount Aloysius and lost both games to the Mounties, 6-1 and 6-5.

Senior Ethan Showers (Hughesville/Hughesville) went a perfect 3-3 in game one for the Panthers.

The Mounties started out on top as they plated one run in the first, second and third inning to take a 3-0 lead.

Mount Aloysius blew the game open in the fourth with a three-run home run to extend its lead to 6-0.

The Panthers got on the board in the top of the fifth as freshman Jay Clinger (Edinboro/Northwestern) drove in their first with an RBI sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 6-1.

The Mounties went on to hold off the Panthers' offense as they took game one, 6-1.

Game two started out slow with neither team able to get on the board through the first two innings until the Panthers erupted for five runs in the third as they collected seven hits in the inning and RBIs from senior Kody Johnston (Homerville, GA/Clinch County), Showers, freshman Jean Turber (Northumberland/Shikellemy) and senior Ethan Lear (Glen Rock/Susquehannock) gave the Panthers a 5-0 lead.

The Mounties answered with two runs to chip away at the Pitt-Bradford lead on a home run and an RBI single to make the score 5-2 after the third inning.

The Panthers' offense went cold the rest of the night and Mount Aloysius climbed back into it after putting up two runs in the seventh to cut the lead down to one at 5-4.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Mounties led off the inning with a home run by Bryn Brown, his second of the game, to tie the game up at 5-5.

The Mounties kept the momentum alive as they came back in the bottom of the tenth and hit a walk off single to complete the sweep against the Panthers.

The Panthers will take the field next as they host AMCC opponent Pitt-Greensburg on April 27th at 1 p.m.
