Panthers Dominate Early, Sweep Pitt-Greensburg

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford volleyball team hosted Pitt-Greensburg in their final regular-season home game on Saturday, easily coming away with a 3-0 victory over the Bobcats on Senior Day.

Prior to the action, the Panthers took a moment to recognize its two seniors. Emily Treat and Emily Cleveland were celebrated by their teammates and family members in the pregame ceremony where they received flowers, gifts, and speeches from their teammates. 

Once the action began, the Panthers controlled the match from the beginning. They won the first set 25-12 and quickly jumped ahead with a 25-9 victory in the second. The Bobcats battled back in the third, but the Panthers were able to ultimately prevail with a 25-20 win. 

  • After losing the first point of the game, the Panthers quickly took control, scoring 5 straight to jump ahead early. Emily Cleveland recorded 3 early kills in the rally, and Talia Magno added another.
  • The Panthers maintained the advantage until they exploded midway through the set. Up 9-4, the Panthers scored 9 of 10 points to increase their advantage to 14. Jordan Sitler had two kills in the run, while Tabitha Walker had a kill and two service aces. 
  • The Panthers further pushed their advantage near the end of the set, using three blocks and a Cleveland kill to put 1st on set point. After the Bobcats were able to score 3 late points, the Panthers won the set on a service error.
  • The second set of the day was not much different from the first. The Panthers scored the first four points of the set, and further expanded their lead to 9-2 after three consecutive Emily Cleveland Kills. The Panthers continued to dominate the set after a Pitt-Greensburg time out, continuously increasing their advantage throughout the set. Jordan Sitler led the way for the remainder of the second with 3 kills.
  • The final set of the afternoon saw the guest battle back against the Panthers, staying within a point, and even holding a lead for the majority of the third. The Panthers were able to regain control with the score tied at 15. Kaitlyn Sexton pit down a kill to earn a side-out, and then the Panthers pushed their lead to 4 with kills from Sexton, Walker, and Cleveland and an ace from Kayla Maslowski. Pitt-Bradford maintained this advantage for the remainder of the match, as Olivia Reese put down the final kill to end the match.

Emily Cleveland led the way for the Panthers with 12 kills. She also had a service ace and 1.5 blocks on the day. Olivia Reese finished the day with 9 kills and 2 aces. Pitt-Bradford's Middle hitters were especially lethal in the match. Kaitlyn Sexton had 8 kills on only 10 attacks, without an error, giving her a .800 hitting percentage. she also was a part of 3 blocks. Jordan Sitler also had 8 kills but did so on 14 swings.

Tabitha Walker added 32 more assists to her AMCC leading tally, and also added 4 kills, 8 digs, and 2 aces. The Panthers had two players finish with double-digit digs. Stephanie Carson had 13, while Kayla Maslowski collected 12.

The win moves the Panthers record to 17-5 with a 5-2 record in AMCC play. They are currently in 3rd place in the conference standings. They will hit the road on Tuesday for a non-conference game at Fredonia, and follow that up with an important AMCC match-up with Alfred State to close the regular season next Saturday. Tuesday's game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
