Pioneers Earn First Win

The Alfred State Women's Basketball Team got their first win of the season, downing Cazenovia 51-46. The Pioneers played across the street at Alfred University in the first day of the Alfred Classic.

Alfred State started strong, jumping to a 14-6 advantage after 1 quarter. The Wildcats rallied back, winning the second quarter, and going into the half only down two points. After three quarters, the teams were all square at 40-40. Still tied with 2:35 remaining, Lindsey Weidman (East Bethany, NY / Notre Dame Batavia) made two straight jump shots putting the Pioneers up 4 points with 2:10 left. Faith McCombs (Amityville, NY / Copaigue) tallied on two more points, putting the game out of reach for the Wildcats.

Alfred State was led today by Jenna George (Dansville, NY / Dansville) and Lindsey Weidman. Both George and Weidman tallied 14 points on the night, the only Pioneers with double digit points and accounting for more than half of the teams scoring. George contributed on the boards as well, notching eight rebounds as well. Faith McCombs was the rebounding leader for Alfred State, with thirteen rebounds.

Bailey Bennett was the scoring leader for the Cazenovia team. She had a game-high 17 points on 6-13 shooting. Bennett went 3-9 from three-point range.

Alfred State is back in action, squaring off against Fredonia, immediately following the Alfred University- Cazenovia game slated for 2 p.m. The Pioneers are set to tip off at 4 p.m.
