Binder Posts a Double-Double in Hawks Road Match

ALFRED, N.Y. – Amanda Binder posted her second consecutive double-double tonight as the Hawks fell in four-set at Alfred University in their last non-conference volleyball match of the season.

The Hawks took the first set 25-22 but fell 25-14 in the second.  The Saxons outlasted Hilbert by a total of five points in the final two sets, winning 25-23 and 25-22.

Alfred picked up three additional points off their services aces (10-7 advantage) but didn't outwork the Hawks at the net as each team finished with two blocks.  The difference in the match came down to hitting as Hilbert closed with a (.047) attack percentage (34 kills, 27 errors) and Alfred scored 40 points off kills while giving away fewer points in hitting errors (21).

Amanda Binder combined 14 kills with 16 digs to earn her 11th double-double of her three-year career wearing royal and white.   Morgan Ott reached for 20 assists along with 15 digs and three service aces.

Ashley Viengmay picked up 20 digs to mark her seventh career 20+ dig game at Hilbert.  Chelsea Adamski grabbed 16 digs and assisted on three kills.

Nickee Thibault earned a career-high nine digs in the four set match.

After trailing in the first set, Amanda Binder's kill gave Hilbert a 7-6 score and the Hawks never relinquished their lead from there en route to the three-point win.

The second set turned in to a see-saw battle early, until Alfred jumped from a 16-11 lead to a 23-11.  The Hawks gave the Saxons five of those seven points in passing or hitting errors.

Momentum swings can best describe the third set.  Both teams gathered several points in a series of side outs even into the early 20's.  The Saxons strung together two points for a 24-21 lead before Binder cut the lead to one point.  The junior was credited with a kill and followed with a service ace setting the score at 24-23.  Alfred knocked down a kill for the final point to take a 2-1 lead in the game.

The fourth set played out similarly as the early sets.  Hilbert battled to take their first lead (12-11) and then their final one (22-21) thanks to Anissa Quiroga's kill.  AU earned only one of their four final points but got to 25 first.

Hilbert closes their 2015 season this weekend when they travel to central Pa. for their season-ending AMCC match at Mount Aloysius October 31.
