Panthers Fall at Fredonia

Panthers Fall at Fredonia

The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Women's soccer team returned to action on Friday afternoon, losing to Fredonia 9-0 on the road.

The Panthers were able to keep the Blue Devils off the board for the opening 10 minutes. In the span, Pitt-Bradford goalkeeper Emily Bethel made three early saves. The hosts were able to open the scoring at 13:11 and then continued to pin the Panthers back in their own half. They used their constant pressure to quickly tack on three more goals in a 7-minute span. Bethel made 7 more saves in the final 25 minutes of the opening half, to keep the score 4-0 Fredonia at the break.

The Devils did not take long to get started after halftime, as they scored less than a minute following the restart. This resulted in Pitt-Bradford changing goalkeepers, as Sadie Wood entered the game for the remaining 44 minutes of play. With Wood in goal, Fredonia added two more goals in her first 15 minutes of action and finished off the scoring with a goal in the 79th and the final score in the 82nd. Wood was able to make 4 saves in the half.

With the Devils pressing and keeping the Panthers in their zone, they were only able to muster two shots on the day. After the Panthers were able to draw a foul about 25 yards away from goal, Kihara Gotshall took a shot from the resulting free-kick that landed just on top of the netting for a goal kick. The Panther's only other shot came in the 86th minute. Jordyn Harasta collected a loose ball 30 yards from the target. She unleashed a long shot that curved away from the goal, missing off the right post.

Emily Bethel made 10 saves in 46 minutes of action, while Sadie Wood made 4. Harasta and Gotshall had the only shots for the Panthers. Gotshall, Delaney Stowe and Jada Luther played all 90 minutes for Pitt-Bradford.

The Panthers (0-3-1) were originally scheduled to play Oswego on Saturday, however, that game has been canceled. Their next game will be on Wednesday, Sept. 15, when they travel to Elmira.
