HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Hilbert College baseball team strung together a combination of single hits with a few walks and earned their first AMCC victory of the year. The Hawks opened the day with a 4-2 win before suffering a 10-2 night cap loss to Mount Aloysius in the double header home contest played at Houghton College this afternoon.
Sal Carroccia earned his second victory this season covering all seven innings, striking out five while giving up 10 hits and two runs.
Kevin Moore started the rally with a single to left field then
Noah Rasnik connected with a hit to the mound and sprinted to first, beating the throw.
Bradley Perrin snuck a hit through the right side setting up the Hawks' first bases loaded situation.
Daniel Christmann picked up an RBI single to the left side getting the Hawks' first run.
Mount Aloysius made a pitching change and suffered back-to-back walks which equated to two additional runs on the scoreboard.
After
Joshua Maier connected for a long ball – out - hit to right field,
Dalton Reynolds gave Hilbert their fourth run by way of the Mount Aloysius' third base on balls pitching.
The Mounties made another change on the mound and the new hurler collected the final out of the inning.
Mount Aloysius' triple to right field turned into their final run in the sixth inning as Hilbert hung on for their first league win this year.
After a brief break, Mount Aloysius jumped on the Hawks early in the second game and built a 5-0 lead by the middle of the 2nd inning.
Joshua Maier and
Ryan Bonafede each picked a hit before they moved around the bags on
Kevin Moore's short dinger to first base.
Daniel Christmann earned his second RBI for the day with his single to center field sending Maier home.
Hilbert found another run in the bottom of the 6th when
Dalton Reynolds was hit home off
Anthony Wurstner's double, but that was it for the Hawks. Mount Aloysius padded their 6-2 lead into the 10-2 final in the 9thinning.
Tyler Wangler face 19 batters and
Justin Hulbert challenged 24 Mounties. They combined for three strike outs while giving up 13 hits and six earned runs.
The Hawks will continue their road tripping-ways as they travel to Olean, NY tomorrow to host Alfred State in another 'home game' at St. Bonaventure University's turf field.
