Women's Basketball Controls Pace In AMCC/Buffalo Cup Win at Medaille

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Hilbert College women's basketball team collected a 59-46 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victory over Medaille College tonight after posting impressive shooting percentages.

This marked the third consecutive Buffalo Cup win against the Mavs as the Hawks swept the series last year.

Hilbert improved to 12-4 overall and 7-2 in AMCC action while they dropped the Mavericks to 4-12 and helped them stay in the bottom third of the league standings at 2-7.

Taylor Corts earned game-high scoring honors with 21 points thanks in large part to her 5-for 11 efficiency from beyond the 3-point line.

Ashley Repine, who went 6-for-10 from the floor, added 12 points while Emily Gawlak tossed in eight points, grabbed seven rebounds and two steals.

Katelyn Proy was a massive presence in the paint as she grabbed six offensive rebounds and four blocked shots while chipping in nine points.

Repine and Gawlak hooked-up for the first points of the game before Corts' 3-pointer capped a 5-0 run establishing a 7-2 lead just minutes into the first quarter.  Proy scored all nine of her points in the first ten minutes of action.

Hilbert created more space in the second quarter fueled by a 7-0 run which set a 30-18 score at 4:52.  Both team's offensive production slowed before the break and they settled into a 36-23 half time score.

Intermission didn't help as both teams suffered through several minutes of scoreless action in the third quarter.

Hilbert took over when Corts drained back-to-back 3-pointers and Proy pulled her 10th rebound.  The Hawks scored seven points off Medailles six turnovers but the Royal and White committed six turnovers of their own.

Hilbert built a 50-32 margin by the start of the final quarter.  Just has she did in the first two quarters, Repine created space in the paint for Hilbert's opening bucket in the fourth.

Medaille outscored the Hawks 14-9 in the last ten minutes, but by then, the Hawks had already won the game.

Hilbert finished the game hitting 8-of-9 free throws and shot 42.6 percent from the field.

Emma Fredo pulled down five rebounds and scored five points while Demi Battin added four points and swipped two steals.

The Hawks return to action this Saturday when the host the AMCC Game of the Week against La Roche College (8-1) January 19 at 2pm.
