Hawks Use Balanced Attack To Take Down Pitt-Bradford 106-62

Hamburg, N.Y. – The Hilbert men's basketball team used a balanced attack, with six players scoring in double figures, to earn a 106-62 victory over the visiting Pitt-Bradford Panthers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hawks got off to a quick start, swarming on the defensive end to force early turnovers, resulting in fast break buckets on offense and a 21-4 lead through five minutes of play.
  • Pitt-Bradford answered with a 6-0 run, but Hilbert's Warren Richardson responded immediately with a layup that sparked an 18-2 run to put the Hawks up 39-12 with 6:39 remaining in the opening half.
  • The Panthers outscored the Hawks 13-10 over the next four minutes, before Lazar Jovanovich took a Masia Phillips pass strong to the rim for a three-point play to put Hilbert up 52-25 with just over a minute left in the half.
  • Pitt-Bradford capped off the half with a basket of their own to go into the intermission with the Hawks leading 55-27.
  • Pitt-Bradford opened up the second half scoring with a three, which Hilbert answered on the following possession with a Masia Phillips three-pointer.
  • Both teams traded baskets over the next few minutes, resulting in a 71-40 Hilbert lead with 14 minutes left to play.
  • The Panthers defense stepped up, holding Hilbert to just three points over the next four minutes to fuel a 9-3 Panther run.
  • It was all Hawks after that, as they outscored the Panthers 32-13 over the final six plus minutes to earn an impressive 106-62 victory.
  • Hilbert's Masia Phillips finished with a team-high in points (14) and assists (11), while Warren Richardson ripped down a team-high nine boards.
  • Pitt-Bradford's Nick Carmichael led all scorers with a game-high 17 points, while also leading the Panthers with seven rebounds, and tied for the team-lead with two assists.
GAME NOTES
  • Alex Karamanos entered the game needing just 7 points to reach the 1,000 point career milestone for his collegiate career (including junior college). He surpassed that mark with 6:39 to go in the first half, and capped off the first half with a team-high 11 points.
  • The Hawks finished with a season-high 106 total points scored and a season-high 13 players logging points on the stat sheet.
  • Hilbert's defense was stifling throughout, forcing 17 turnovers, which resulted in a 22-2 advantage in fast break points.
  • Hilbert finished the game shooting 41 of 71 (57.7%) from the floor, including 11 of 24 (45.8%) from 3-point range, while going 13 of 19 (68.4%) from the free throw line.   
  • Pitt-Bradford shot 22 of 66 (33.3%) from the floor, including 5 of 19 from the 3-point line (26.3%), while going 13 of 21 (61.9%) from the charity stripe.
