BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's volleyball team wrapped up their fourth game of the weekend tourney with a victory over Medaille College this afternoon to improve to 2-6 overall.
After going 0-3 early in the Golden Eagle Invitational tournament, Hilbert rallied after an opening set loss (25-16) to Medaille. The Hawks outlasted the Mavericks in a pair of extended sets 31-29 (2nd) and 28-26 (4th) while they got to 25 points first in the 3rd set, winning 25-21.
With a combined total of 414 attack attempts between the two teams and only 103 kills (53 errors), great defensive play carried the sets with excitement.
Victoria Siracuse earned 29 digs, one shy of tying the single game record, and
Kamalei Lene added 16 along with
Torianna LeWand's 15 digs for Hilbert. Medaille has two players post 40+ digs in the four-set match.
Amanda Binder and
Ashley Repine were tough at the net as they shared 28 kills and only five hitting errors. Repine earned a pair of solo blocks and was credited with the same in block assists while Binder collected three block assists.
Morgan Ott dished for 39 assists and two service aces as well as nine digs.
The Hawks struggled in three sets to the 9-2 University of Mount Union Raiders. Hilbert fell 25-19, 25-6,25-14 hitting in the negative from the net.
Earning only 16 team kills, the Hawks gave away 19 points from hitting errors against a team who was credited with seven team blocks.
Binder added six kills while Ott assisted on 13 points at the net, scored a pair of points off service aces and led the Hawks with nine digs.
Hilbert hosts their home opener this Wednesday when they welcome Alfred State to the Hafner Recreation Center September 21. The game will be lived-streamed for those who cannot attend in person.
