Women's Basketball Setting Records Early in January, Beat Bobcats

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's basketball team set a few new program records this afternoon after they earned a 78-49 victory over Pitt-Greensburg in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action.

The Hawks have now strung together four consecutive wins dating back to December 12th (new record) and they posted their largest AMCC victory margin with the 29-point spread today.

Earlier this week, Hilbert earned a sweep of their Empire 8 opponents after picking-up road wins at Alfred and Nazareth while defeating Elmira at home.

As well, an unofficial record was set when junior Kelsi Ebert posted back-to-back 30-point performances this week lifting the Hawks to a 7-6 overall record.

Hilbert improved to 4-3 and dropped Greensburg, whom the Hawks matched-up perfectly on paper, down to 3-4 and 4-10 overall.

Today's victory was a result of a total team effort as everyone who stepped on the floor played with confidence and for each other while looking for that extra pass to set up an easy bucket.

The Royal and White won three of the four quarters and essentially shut-down the Bobcats in the third session (19-4) to pull ahead 59-27 heading into the final quarter.  With 7:08 left in the game, Hilbert had amassed a 36-point lead (67-31) before Greensburg found their rhythm at the foul line, going 11 for 14 in the final 5:30 of play.

Ebert closed the game hitting 11 of 17 shots, in a variety of ways and making all seven free throw attempts.  She added six rebounds and six assists along with a pair of steals before leaving the court with over three minutes left in the game.

Emily Speidel was on fire sinking 7-of-8 shots and two of three at the charity stripe.  She was just two points ahead of Crystle Marion who tossed in 15 points while getting to the foul line nine times.

The Hawks out-shot Greensburg (56.6% v 28.8%) held a slight edge on the glass (38-33) and outscored the visitors 32-12 in the paint.

Katelyn Proy and Ashley Repine were perfect from the floor as they each made all three shots they attempted.

Hilbert returns to action next week when they travel to Erie, Pa for a 6pm tip against Penn State Behrend, 4-9, 3-3 AMCC .  The Lions are currently on an AMCC two-game losing streak after they fell to Medaille (74-60) and Bradford (68-51) this past week.
