Women's Basketball Falls in Final Seconds to Pitt-Greensburg

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The No. 3 Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team scored seven points in the final 35 seconds to come back and defeat No. 2 Penn State Behrend 80-78 in the semifinals of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Tournament on Friday night.

Key Moments:

* Melina Maietta scored five of the last seven points in the final seconds to help the Bobcats advance to the AMCC Championship game
* Maietta made a layup with 26 seconds left after a Shaquoia McCray steal and followed with the ensuing three-pointer with five seconds on the clock
* Maitta finished with a team-high 23 points, one of four players in double figures
* Kara Haslett (Baden, PA/Ambridge) tallied a career-high 33 points for the Lions
* Haslett drained 13 field goals (career best) and went 4-for-4 from beyond the arc
* Rachel Majewski (Erie, PA/Villa Maria Academy), Caitlin Carnuche (New Castle, PA/Mohawk) and Brianna Dean (New Castle, PA/Neshannock) contributed 11 points each
* Dean paced the team with nine rebounds
* Behrend trailed after the first two quarters and outscored Pitt-Greensburg 32-23 in the third quarter for a small 63-62 lead heading into the final period
* The Lions held the advantage in field-goal percentage (52.7 percent) and from long range (64.3 percent)
* Behrend reached a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter with 5:07 remaining after an Alexis Furyes (Medina, OH/Highland)
