Men’s Soccer Drops Regular Season Finale at Mount Aloysius

CRESSON, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's soccer team took a tough loss on Tuesday night, when the Lions were defeated 4-2 by Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Mount Aloysius College at the Walker Athletic Complex.

The loss knocks Penn State Altoona (9-8, 3-5 AMCC) out of contention for a spot in the upcoming AMCC postseason tournament. With the regular season now complete, the Lions will hope for a potential selection to the Eastern College Athletic Conference's Division III Championship Tournament.

Ciaran Corr (Newtown Square, PA/Marple Newtown) scored two goals for the Lions in Tuesday's loss. Tommy Packevicz (Trumbull, CT/Christian Heritage) made 10 saves in goal for Penn State Altoona to tie his season-high in saves.

With the teams competing in cold, rainy, and windy conditions, Mount Aloysius (7-5-4, 6-2 AMCC) secured an important early lead by putting a pair of goals on the scoreboard during the first half.

Tevin Beadle gave the Mounties a 1-0 lead at the 16:20 mark, when he capitalized in a one-on-one situation in the middle of the field and scored on a shot to give the home team the game's first goal. Mount Aloysius doubled its lead less than three minutes later, when Louis Vivier's one-touch shot off of Lachie Back's pass into the box found the back of the net at 19:11.

Penn State Altoona trimmed its deficit to 2-1 just one minute into the second half, when Corr scored on a penalty kick at the 46-minute mark.

But Mount Aloysius responded just 29 seconds later, when Juan Camacho pulled the trigger on a shot inside the box to beat the keeper at 46:29 and reestablish a two-goal lead for the Mounties.

The Lions struck back at 79:47, when Corr's header goal again brought Penn State Altoona to within one, 3-2. The goal was Corr's team-high 13th of the season.

But Mount Aloysius tacked on an insurance goal less than one minute after that, when Colby Snyder scored on a penalty kick at 80:27 to bolster the home team's lead.

By the game's end, Corr led Penn State Altoona with four shot attempts, putting all of them on goal. Grady Ballard (State College, PA/State College) also had one shot on goal.

Now, Penn State Altoona men's soccer will await word on a potential selection to compete in the ECAC Division III Championship Tournament. The Lions' selection to the tournament, should it occur, would be announced following the conclusion of men's soccer conference championships next weekend.
