Men's Soccer Slipped In AMCC Action

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College men's soccer team suffered a 10-0 defeat to Medaille College this afternoon in the first Buffalo Cup contest for men's soccer.

The Hawks fell to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in AMCC play while Medaille improved to 5-3-1 and stayed perfect in league play after two games.

The Mavericks took little time off the clock before their first of six scores in the opening period.  They beat Ryan Valentine at 4:44 and again at 9:49 to set the 2-0 score before the ten-minute mark.  Medaille scored in spurts and were always in pursuit of finding the back of the net every minute of the 90-minute contest.

By half time, the visitors held a 19-2 edge in shots and 4-0 in corner kicks.

The second half played out much like the first with an unbalanced attack on the frame which resulted in a 30-3 shots on goal differential.

Valentine made six saves in the 24:04 minutes played.  Brandon Henry covered 65:56 minutes and made three saves while surrendering six goals.

Matthew Barth, Garrett Rehner and Alejandro Muniz were credited with Hilbert's three shots this afternoon.

Medaille got scoring from six different players as three Mavs were multi-goal scores.

Hilbert will regroup and hit the road this weekend when they travel to Penn State Altoona for a 3:15pm AMCC contest in central Pa.
