Avallone, Burdett and Serce Homer in Win Over Ithaca

The Alfred State baseball team (18-20) beat the Ithaca College Bombers (25-11) 11-7 at Freeman Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The Pioneers recorded 11 hits, 11 runs, 11 RBIs and 3 errors.

The Bombers recorded 11 hits, 7 runs, 6 RBIs and 3 errors.

Pioneer Leaders:

Owen Lansing (Lyncourt/Solvay) went 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs.

Nick Serce (Irondequoit) went 2-for-5 with 4 RBIs.

Matteo Avallone (Mahopac/Bridgton Academy) went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI.

Brody Burdett (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) and Sam Dickerson (Cutchogue/Mattituck) recorded 2 RBIs.

What Happened:

In their last game of the regular season the Pioneers handled business in Ithaca.

Avallone hit his ninth home run of the season for the first run of the game during the top of the second inning followed by a homer to left center from Burdett. Lansing singled through the left side plating Devin Mersmann (Arcade/Pioneer) for a 3-0 lead.

In the top of the third inning Serce hit a home run and Dickerson tripled to right center plating Mersmann and Avallone. Lansing singled to third base bringing home Dickerson.

In the bottom of the third inning the bombers scored two runs and another run in the fourth inning.

During the top of the fifth inning Serce doubled to right center bringing home Lansing, Elijah Barinas (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond), and Tyler Petery (Schwenksville,PA / Pope John Paul II). Burdett singled to left field plating Serce.

The Bombers scored three runs during the bottom of the fifth inning and the last run of the game in the sixth inning.

Pioneer Pitching:

Chris Catoire (Brooklyn/Fort Hamilton) pitched 3 innings and allowed 4 hits, 2 runs, walked 2 and struck out 3.

Nick Serce (Irondequoit) pitched 2 innings and allowed 2 hits, 0 runs, walked 1 and struck out 2.

Chris Baldwin (Patchogue- Medford) pitched 1 innings and allowed 2 hits, 3 runs, walked 0 and struck out 0.

Spencer Riehler (Lewiston, NY / Lewiston-Porter) pitched 1 innings and allowed 2 hits, 1 run, walked 0 and struck out 1.

The Pioneers move on to post-season play this weekend. The seeding will be determined after Wednesday's conference games conclude.
