Hawks Find More Runs, but Drop Two AMCC games

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Freshman Chelsea Buono went  4 for 6 and knocked in 2RBI's today for Hilbert College, but the Hawks suffered two AMCC defeats to La Roche College in games played at the D'Youville College Athletic Complex.

The Redhawks from Pittsburgh captured an 8-3 and 10-4 set of games and improved to 6-2 after their DH loss last night while in Western New York.   Hilbert continues to battle for their first AMCC win in eight tries.

La Roche started the 9 am game strong picking up three early runs in the top of the first inning.  Hilbert answered back in the bottom of the second when Elissa Hall's single to right field knocked in Jenna Castricone cutting the score to a two-run difference.

La Roche tacked on single runs in both the third and fourth innings before Hilbert found two runs in the fifth inning.

TylerLynn Langer pushed in Rebecca Bailey for the first score and Rachel Collier's single to right field gave Crystal Hailey time to trot home for the 5-3 score as both teams headed to top of 6th.

The fifth batter hit a hard, inside-the-park home run to center field setting the final 8-3 score.

Jenna Castricone went 2 for 3 and TylerLynn Langer went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Victoria Dzaak took the loss, giving up 10 hits while fanning two batters. TylerLynn closed the game and gave up two hits.

Hilbert responded in the 11 am game scoring four runs, but they gave up 10 in the process.  La Roche put runs on the board in five of the seven innings as they closed the game with three tallies in both the sixth and seventh innings.

Hilbert found home plate in the 3rd, 6th and 7th innings behind four different batters.

Erin Smith singled in the 3rd and Rachel Collier in the 6th.  Chelsea Buono's hit a grounder to the third baseman who miffed the throw to first.  Buono sprinted to third base in the run-down and forced Castricone home.

Rebecca Bailey followed that play with a single up the middle which moved Buono home for the final run.

Rachel Collier went 2 for 3 and Buono also went 2 for 3 but added 2 RBIs and scored twice along the way.

Jaelyn Gotham faced 40 batters and gave up 13 hits with six earned runs.

Hilbert returns to action tomorrow when they travel to Alfred University for another double header beginning at 3pm.
