Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bradt Leads Hawks With 20 Points

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Senior Ryan Bradt led three Hilbert College men's basketball players in double-digit scoring, but the Hawks committed too many turnovers and didn't get to the foul line enough as they fell 84-77 to Medaille College tonight.

The Mavs (7-10, 5-5) dropped the Hawks to 3rd place in the league standings (13-4, 7-3), just as everyone began the back-half of the AMCC schedule.

Bradt connected on 10-of-12 shots, all in the paint (20 points), and led the Hawks with seven rebounds (four offensive).  Sean Weisansal was 7-of-12 (sinking three long balls) plus 2-of-2 at the foul line to post 19 points and four assists.   Kirkland Ottey collected six assists and 15 points shooting 6-of-13 from the floor.  Jalen Smith and Weisansal each added four assists during the game.

Medaille came out of the gate and took an early lead 9-4 lead at 16:49 and weathered a pair of Hilbert tying buckets (14-14 at 12:39 and 25-25 at 6:48).

Xavier Major started an 8-0 Hilbert run to give the Hawks their first lead at 6:34.  Major went 1-for 2 at the foul line before Weisansal scored back-to-back layups, his second one off a steal in the back court which he took coast-to-coast to the rim.  The guard from Maryvale then struck a long, deep shot beyond the arc giving Hilbert a 30-25 advantage.

That lead didn't last long as Medaille knotted the score at 32-32 off a 3-pointer at 2:58.  Kyle Kline found his spot 30-seconds later lifting Hilbert back-up by three points. Each team traded scores to the break, yet a three-point play with five seconds in the half gave the visitors a 40-37 lead to the locker room.

Hilbert forced the 5th tie after six minutes of play into the second period when Ottey (four points) and Bradt brought the Hawks back to 51-51 score.  Hilbert stretched their lead to four points thanks to Bradt's hustle in the paint but that turned into the Hawks biggest lead the rest of the way.

Three more lead changes and one additional tie score (64-64) was it for Hilbert the final seven minutes of the game.  Medaille connected on 7 of 11 free throws down the stretch to take the win.

Hilbert finished with a 50.8% field goal shooting but 28.6% from the 3-point area.  The Hawks went to the foul line only eight times and sank just five freebies all night.

Medaille went 23-31 from the foul line.

Hilbert returns to action this weekend when they travel to Mount Aloysius on January 23.  Tip-off is set for 1pm.
