Hawks Soccer Battles to 1-1 Tie

BUFFALO, N.Y. – After a scoreless first half, the Hilbert College women's soccer team battled Medaille College to a 1-1 double overtime tie this afternoon in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match played at the Art Dobson Turf Complex at D'Youville College.

Courtney Vaccaro found the back of the net first in the 72nd minute.  She delivered the Jackie Morgan pass between the pipes around Medaille's Megan Owens.  Hilbert held that lead for seven minutes until the Mavericks matched the score at 79:26.

Medaille outshot the Hawks 24-8 before the end of regulation.  Jenna Castricone was credited with 13 saves on Medaille's 14 shots-on-goal.  The Mav goalie collected five saves in that same 90-minutes.

Once the game headed into overtime, Hilbert took over and became the aggressor. The Hawks unleased five shots in the first 10-minute period which matched their  effort in the first 45-minute.  After a score-less first OT period, Hilbert took every opportunity that appeared to be available.  The royal and white were called for three off-sides, two in the game's last 70 seconds.

Courtney Vaccaro was credited with five of Hilbert's 10 shots on goal.  Jackie Morgan fired three at the net and Jennifer Colvin and Shannon Rogers finished with one each.   All four chipped all of Hilbert's 14 shots at the frame today.

Jenna Castricone went the full 110 minute game and made 15 saves to keep Hilbert in the game.

The Hawks return to action this weekend when they host Penn State Altoona in another AMCC game.  The Lions come into the game with a 2-3-1 AMCC record and are fighting for the sixth and final spot to play-offs.

The Hilbert women will honor their three seniors on Tuesday, October 27th with their final game of the 2015 season against the 1st place Pitt.-Bradford women.
