BUFFALO, N.Y. – After building a three-goal cushion early in the second half, the Hilbert College women's lacrosse team hit a scoring drought and dropped a 12-8 decision to Hiram College this afternoon in a wet game played at Nichols School in North Buffalo.

The Hawks were in command early building a 5-3 lead heading into the half time. Aaryonah Vaughn and Calista Mis lifted Hilbert to a 2-0 lead just seven minutes into the non-conference match.

Twice the Terriers knotted the game at 2-2 and then again at 3-3 with Vaughn netting her second goal of the half at 10:03. The Hawks closed the half with a 2-0 run behind Brooklynn Gormel and Josephine Ban's markers.

Hiram drew within one at 27:54 in the second half, only to see the Hawks score back-to-back goals within 40-seconds of each other. Mis scored unassisted at 25:54 and Ban won the draw control and beat the visiting goalie which created a 7-4 advantage.

Both teams traded scores again to maintain the three-goal Hilbert margin. Alyssa Siracuse fed Gormel at 22:04 in what turned out to be Hilbert's final marker of the game.

Hiram strung together a 6-0 run converting three free position goals in the final 18 minutes of action.

Gormel, Mis, Ban and Vaughn each posted a pair of goals with Siracuse earning three draw controls. Gormel led with five ground balls and Alayna DeFazio, Gormel and Siracuse forced two caused turnovers.

Ashley Repine finished the day with nine saves on sixty minutes of action.

The Hawks (0-5) are off for the holiday weekend but return to action next Wednesday when they travel to Alfred University April 4th for another non-conference match.
