The Alfred State men's soccer team battled tough with Penn State Behrend, the top team in the AMCC, on Wednesday night. The Lions used an early goal to earn a 1-0 victory.
Brenden Akut scored the lone goal of the game 5:01 into game. Tyler Vandemerwe set him up with a nice pass.
The Lions (11-3, 6-0 AMCC) held a 16 to 5 shot advantage in the game. Sam York made a pair of saves to earn the shutout victory while Thad Grierson (Perry) made five saves for the Pioneers.
The contest was very physical (26 total fouls) and both teams had scoring opportunities that they were unable to cash in on.
The Pioneers hit the road for the final two games of the regular season. They start the trip with a 4 p.m. game at La Roche.
