Softball Earns 1st AMCC Win on Split Decision Day

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Hilbert College softball team earned a split decision against D'Youville College today.  The Hawk suffered an opening 4-2 loss before they rebounded and took a 7-3 win at Dobson Field.

The night cap victory marks the first time Hilbert gained the upper-hand on the Spartans (in a single game) dating back to the 2010 season when the Hawks swept D'Youville in non-conference action.

Jenna Castricone was a consistent hitter today and Marisa McIntyre earned her 1st AMCC win and her 6th overall victory in eight tries.

GAME 1

D'Youville put one run on the board in the bottom of the 1st and that lead held through the next three and a half innings.  The Spartans added a trio of runs in the 5th, building a 4-0 lead before Hilbert made it home twice in the top of the 6th.

Morgan McNeill's singled RBI to center field along with a center fielder error gave both Rebecca Bailey and Nateal Papasergi time to make it to the plate.

Castricone went 2-for-3 hitting a double bagger in the top of the 7th making things interesting late in the game.

Rachel Allen returned from injury and tossed her first game of the season.  She struck out four giving up six hits and four earned runs in six innings.

GAME 2

After a tight two innings, Hilbert took a commanding 6-0 lead by the middle of the 4th.  D'Youville got on board with one run in the fourth and fifth innings.  The Hawks extended their runs to 7 in the top of the 7th then gave up a pair of runs before getting the final out of the game with a 7-4 win.

Brittany Cooley went 2-for-3, scored two runs and added an RBI triple to lift Hilbert to the 4-0 lead.  Castricone went 2-for-4 and hit a RBI double just prior to Cooley's long ball in the 4th inning.

McNeill, Morgan Grosch and Hannah Prenoveau (1 RBI) were active on the base lines as they each were credited with a stolen base.

McIntyre went another complete game while giving up seven hits, one earned run and striking out four.

The Hawks have two games this coming weekend, though the order of the contests has changed.  Hilbert will now travel to Mt. Aloysius for a Saturday, April 1 game and stop on their way back to WNY Sunday and play a non-conference match-up against Alfred State (1pm DH).
