Volleyball Downed at Allegheny Gator Invitational

MEADVILE, Pa. - This weekend, the La Roche University volleyball team played three matches against three different teams at the Allegheny Gator Invitational hosted by Allegheny College. The Redhawks went 0-3 on the weekend, dropping one match Friday evening and two matches on Saturday. LRUVB now holds a 2-10 record this season.

On Friday evening, LRI fell to Chatham University 3-1.LRU won  the first set 25-22, but then dropped the next three straight sets by a combined score of 75-57. Across the box score, the Redhawks led with 45 kills to Chatham's 43, 44 assists to 42, and 81 digs to 67 respectively. Chatham managed to achieve a .132 kill percentage to La Roche's .114 with help from Chatham's junior Setter Shaelah Pepperman with 34 assists.

For LRU, sophomore outside hitter Lauren Tomasko posted a team and career-high of 12 kills. Senior libero Sydney Herzer recorded 24 digs, keeping her number one spot in AMCC standings with 215. Junior outside hitter Mackenzie Jeric wrapped up a .429 kill percentage from 8 kills. Both junior setter Cassidy Rossi and sophomore setter Krystal Anda helped the Redhawks with 16 assists a piece.


On Saturday, LRU played two more matches. They fell to the hosts, Allegheny College, for the second time this season in match number one of the day, 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-23). Despite the sweep, the final stats were close. La Roche struck 30 kills, 24 assists, 3 serving aces, 6 blocks, and 67 digs while Allegheny tallied 35 kills, 33 assists, 7 serving aces, 7 blocks, and 68 digs. However, Allegheny had double of La Roche kill percentage being  .175 K% to La Roche's .052 K%.

  • Senior outside hitter Bethany Nulph (Saxonburg, PA / Knoch) had a match high of 13 kills
  • Junior right side hitter Mackenzie Jeric (Salem, OH / Salem) had 12 kills with .458 K%
  • Junior setter Cassidy Rossi (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) helped the team with 14 assists
  • Senior libero Sydney Herzer (Huber Heights, OH / Wayne) finished with 25 digs

Later that day, La Roche faced their second loss of the season to Waynesburg University, 3-1 (16-25, 25-21, 12-25, 21-25).

After losing the first set to Waynesburg, the Redhawks answered back by winning the second set by four points. La Roche's final stats compared to Waynesburg remains to be slightly close as the Redhawks finished with 36 kills to their 142 total attempts, .063 kill percentage, 6 serving aces, 33 assists, 21 blocks, and 66 digs. On the other hand, Waynesburg grasp the win by 43 kills to their 133 total attempts, .150 kill percentage, 41 assists, 13 serving aces, 10 blocks, and 75 digs,

  • Senior outside htter Bethany Nulph (Saxonburg, PA / Knoch) had a team high of 10 kills
  • Junior setter Cassidy Rossi (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) helped the team with 16 assists
  • Senior libero Sydney Herzer (Huber Heights, OH / Wayne) finished with 24 digs
    • Herzer remains first in AMCC in digs with 264 with an average of 6.14 digs per set
  • Both freshman middle hitter Quinn Hughes (Butler, PA / Knoch) and Junior right side hitter Shelby Lion (Mount Holly, NJ / Rancocas Valley Regional) had 7 and 6 blocks respectively of La Roche's total of 21 blocks.
