Duck Has Career Day In Hawks DH Loss to Cazenovia

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Hawks baseball team traveled to Houghton College this afternoon to host a non-conference double header against Cazenovia College.

Hilbert gave up six runs in the final three innings of both games, falling 6-4 and 10-5 to the 7-14 Wildcats.

Freshman Connor Duck went 5-for-5 with 2 triples, 3 RBI, scored four runs and showed some grit on the mound in the night cap striking three out in the final inning of action.

GAME ONE

The Hawks held a 2-1 lead through five innings, scoring solo runs in the 2nd and 5th.  The Wildcats posted a pair of runs in the 6th and then hit a 3-run homer at the top of the 7th.

Hilbert made a run in the bottom half, but fell short, falling 6-4.

Duck went 3-for-3 finishing the game with his first triple in the bottom of the 7th.

Eric Flores, Duck and Tristan Aldinger each stole a base in the early game.

Winfred Nelson tossed his third complete game of the season, and his fourth of his career.   He struck three out from the mound and knocked in the final Hilbert run in the 7th. The Wildcats finished with six hits scoring four earned runs.

GAME TWO

Both Duck and Aldinger went 2-for-2 posting a triple which knocked in runs.  Aldinger earned 4RBIs and was credited with a stolen base while Duck scored three of the team's five runs.

Eric Flores earned the team's third triple in the 5th inning which led him to cross home plate when Duck singled to center field.

Derek Switzer tossed a five hitter, with four earned runs and three strike outs.

Hilbert took a 2-0 lead in the 1st and scored another run in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 3-2 lead.  Cazenovia outscored the Hawks 8-2 over the final four innings for the win.

Hilbert (6-19) is scheduled to host Pitt-Greensburg this Saturday, April 21 in AMCC action.  Since mother nature has been fantastic this spring throwing us curve balls, we have to wait to see where the league game will be played.
