Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Hawks Fall in Three to Behrend

Erie, Pa. – The Hilbert College men's volleyball team fell to Penn State Behrend for the second time this season, 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-19). Korey Schwab led the Hawks with seven kills and one ace over the three sets.

After a 2-2 tie in the first set, the Lions used a kill by Trenton Muck and two Hilbert errors to go up by three.  Schwab ended the Behrend run with his first kill of the night, bringing the Lion's lead to just two. The Hawks were unable to make a dent into that lead and found themselves trailing quickly. Hilbert lost the first set 25-15. In the second set, Hilbert battled the host team to a 15-15 tie and Korey Schwab gave the Hawks their first lead with a service ace. A Hawk error and Lion ace turned the tables back in favor of Behrend. Hilbert eventually grabbed the 20-18 lead off errors but, again, Behrend responded with strong offense, leading to a 23-21 lead. Hilbert was able to tie it up at 23 but ultimately fell 25-23. The third set saw 8 ties, but a 13-13 score quickly became 18-13 in the Lions' advantage. Hilbert lost the set 25-19.

Andrew Duncan recorded six kills and four block assists, which moves him into third on the Hilbert All-Time Career list for block assists at 84. Former teammate Andrew Weaver is in second all-time with 87. Ryan Ratajczak notched 15 digs, while Adam Heftka added 19 assists in the loss.

The Lions were led by Josh Oertly's 10 kills, four digs, and three block assists. Mitch Farabaugh assisted 19 of the 38 kills for Behrend. Joe Price notched nine digs in the win.

The Hawks recorded 24 kills on the night, ten of which came in the final set. Behrend recorded double-digit kills in all three sets.  Both teams recorded 13 service errors and the Hawks had just four more attack errors than the Lions (20-16).

Hilbert (0-14, 0-4) travels to Penn State Altoona this weekend to play Lancaster Bible at 4pm on Friday, March 6th and Keuka College and Penn State Altoona on Saturday, March 7th.
